A Reminder for the One Who’s Been Let Down

Think of this post as a letter from God to you. Obviously, His real letter to us is His Word. But I felt like God was sharing these things with me when I was let down recently. He spoke words of comfort, assurance, and strength when I felt distressed, insecure, and weary.

What Not to Base Your Love On

Don’t base your love for Me on what other people—even My people—do for you (or don’t for to you).

Don’t base your love for Me on what other people—even My people—say to you (or don’t say to you).

Don’t base your love for Me on what other people—even My people—think about you (or don’t think about you).

What to Base Your Love On

Base your love for Me on what I do for you.

Base your love for Me on what I say to you.

Base your love for Me on what I think about you.

Who Not to Rely On

You can’t rely on people—even My people—to perfectly represent how much I love you.

You can’t rely on people—even My people—to perfectly represent how much I care about you.

You can’t rely on people—even My people—to perfectly represent how much I provide for you.

Who to Rely On

Base your representation of Me on the love I demonstrate in My Word.

Base your representation of Me on the care I show in My Word.

Base your representation of Me on the provision I reveal in My Word.

Who Isn’t Always Worth Trusting

People—even My people—will let you down.

People—even My people—will disappoint you.

People—even My people—will fail you.

Who Is Always Worth Trusting

I will never let you down.

I will never disappoint you.

I will never fail you.

The Why

“But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham My friend, You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth and called from its remotest parts, and said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and have not rejected you. Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be afraid, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will also help you, I will also uphold you with My righteous right hand.’“ (Isaiah 41:8-10 NASB, emphasis mine)

As believers, we’ve been chosen by God, not rejected by Him. Sadly, Christians hurt Christians. Thankfully, God can heal deep wounds and can restore broken relationships. And His heart toward us isn’t malicious but is kind.
