The 3 Hardest Bible Verses for a Recovering Anorexic to Hear

As my emotional, mental, and spiritual recovery continued, I slowly became less resistant to it. I don’t think that reading a biblical passage is a cure for anorexia. However, I do know that the Truth—specifically from God’s Word—sets us free (John 8:37). If there’s someone in your life who’s recovering from anorexia, perhaps you could share that with her. You may also want to share the following verses with her because even though they may be the hardest Bible verses for a recovering anorexic to hear, they are the truest words she could ever hear.

Eating Disorders and the Victim Mentality

If you hit the “rewind” button on my life and traveled back in time about five years, you would find me in a very difficult season of recovery from my anorexia. Struggling to make sense of who I was and who I needed to be. Doubting I would ever love myself or even like myself. Wanting to be skinny above everything else. As that season lingered, I felt like I was trudging through heavy, dirty mud. Craving answers to my questions but not being willing to accept the answers before me.

5 Warning Signs of Anorexia (from a Former Anorexic)

When I had anorexia, I was a talented dieter. I was also a very talented deceiver (which isn’t an accomplishment, by the way). Unfortunately, I am still a very talented deceiver today. That’s why I wanted to share some warning signs of anorexia with you—because anorexia can be very easy to miss. You might think, “Oh, she could never have anorexia” or “I could never have anorexia.” But before you make such a rash judgment, see if you or those you love have exhibited these warning signs.

You Are Not Your Eating Disorder

I know that I almost allowed anorexia nervosa to ruin my life. Thankfully, God intervened. Perhaps you also realize that your eating disorder could’ve ruined your life. But also realize this: you are not your eating disorder.

Stop Listening to the Voice of Your Eating Disorder

Eventually, the muffin was gone, and I realized that I had eaten it…well, at least half of it. It wasn’t a giant muffin, but that didn’t make a difference in my post-anorexia mind. It might as well have been a basketball-sized muffin with triple the chocolate chips. The rest of the day, I allowed my thoughts to descend into Ed’s Black Hole.

Why Your Body Is Perfect Just the Way It Is

Do you ever get tired of hearing that you have to be a smaller size? In order to be considered “okay” in today’s culture, you have to firm up your abs, get rid of your fat, tighten your butt, sculpt your arms, fit into those skinny jeans, and do it all with a smile on your face! If you’re tired of hearing it—and hearing it—maybe you need to stand your ground, rebel, and go against the tide. There is so much more to you than just a size or a number.

The 3 Greatest Fears of Swimsuit Season

I know I’m not the only one who struggles with swimsuit season—whether it’s figuring out how modesty is involved, picking a swimsuit that's cute and trendy, or determining who we’re trying to impress—the hot lifeguard or our great aunt. With that being said, perhaps you can relate some of the fears I’ve experienced pre- and post-swimsuit season.
