Where God's Word Meets Our Mess
I wanted to wish you a happy 4th of July and encourage you to walk in the freedom of Christ on this momentous day. Thank God for setting us free from bondage as a nation and as sinners. Happy 4th of July, friends!
Vacation Bible school (aka VBS) is something that many Christians often dread, even though they know how important it is for introducing children to the gospel. I realize that helping with VBS requires a significant amount of time and energy, but it doesn't have to be draining and discouraging. If you want to have the best VBS ever, here are five things to keep in mind.
Overall, the movie used believable actors and actresses. The story was fairly interesting. Though it wasn't as dramatic as some Christian movies, like Courageous, the general story and theme were compelling; and much of the information Lee Strobel discovered was new to me and may be new to you as well.
I place too much emphasis on my bank account. I am a hoarder when it comes to money. I don’t want to give or even tithe, though it’s silly when I really think about it. My money isn’t even mine, yet I save it like it is.
I hate spending money. If I could, I would save every penny that I earn or receive. But what good would a bank account full of money do? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. My penny-pinching behaviors make no sense, but I continue to pinch pennies nonetheless.
Love isn’t a choice; it’s a command. I wish it was a choice because then I could choose not to do it, but it is the foundation of our faith. Without love, we’re just like the world. So try it.
So how can you tell if someone loves you? If he or she makes sacrifices for you. How can you tell if you love someone? If you make sacrifices for him or her.
Thankfully, I haven’t had to endure many goodbyes. I said goodbye to my grandfather before he passed away, I said goodbye to a close friend when she moved to another state, and I said goodbye to my sister when she headed off to college. But now my home is taking a temporary trip to a distant land called “college.”
Like every other season of life, you can make this the best or the worst of times. So choose your activities well. Don’t waste a moment. If you do nothing else this summer, learn to lean more on Christ and less on yourself.
