Where God's Word Meets Our Mess
A new year is here, and exciting new things are ahead. Well, maybe for you. But all I can see is the unchartered territory that lies ahead, which makes me nervous. In fact, I am terrified. I am terrified of the big, bold, scary future in front of me. I have no idea what’s coming my way.
I don’t have a magical feeling this Christmas. I don’t feel exhilarated or elated. Sure, I enjoy baking cookies, Christmas shopping, and watching classic movies with my family; but I don’t feel particularly happy. If you can relate, then all I have to say is to trust the facts, not your feelings. God’s truth is more reliable than your roller-coaster of emotions.
I'm quick to note the sins of society and my friends and my family, but I’m slow to note my own failings. I don’t realize how much I sin in a day, but I do it more times than I can count. I don’t realize how many things I think, say, and do that displease God.
I definitely feel the pressure to do well during the final days of the semester. But how can I do well on everything when I have so much to do? Balance should play a major part in the life of every student—especially during finals week. It is crucial that you keep a few things in mind during your last few days...
What if you don’t feel thankful? What if you feel like you’re losing a spiritual battle right now…or losing a battle at work, with your spouse, with your health, with your kids, with school, with church, or with your sanity? I’m simply writing this post to remind you that you always have something to be thankful for.
If we don’t even try to deny ourselves, we don’t deserve to have Jesus. Even if we do try to deny ourselves, we don’t deserve Him. However, the main point of this post is simply this: We have to stop acting like we don’t understand basic commands and just do them.
Though the concept of imitating Christ can feel vague sometimes, I hope these 10 ideas provide inspiration for you on how to show Christlike love to others.
Remember that God wants the best thing for you. Even though it feels good to indulge and have a little “sin party” sometimes, it will just make you want to keep sinning. It’s harder to stop once you’ve started. Keep that in mind when you’re tempted to give into a little rebellion.
Priceless was a dramatic and entertaining rescue-turned-romance. The skillful acting, interesting story-line, and believable characters definitely made this worth seeing. Though tear-jerking at times, this film portrayed a story about two girls who were sold into sex trafficking, a topic which is never discussed (but should be!). The Smallbone brothers, of the Christian band For King and Country, tackled it well.
