“Somebody to You” is a popular Christian song that Rachael Lampa released in 2023. At first, I loved this song. It really resonated with me because—like Rachael—I’ve struggled with insecurity about my popularity and success. The lyrics are vulnerable (which is honestly rare in the Christian music industry). But after I heard her perform “Somebody to You” in concert, my opinion totally changed.
Why I’m Not a Fan of Lauren Daigle
Let’s go back to 2018 when Domenick Nati interviewed her and specifically asked if homosexuality is sinful. (Yes, I realize 2018 was five years ago. But I feel more passionate now than I ever have about her response—hence this post). And in essence, she told Domenick, “Well, I can’t respond to that because I’m not God." I can't help but cringe when I think about that response.
Why I’m Not a Swiftie
Why is the world suddenly so obsessed with Taylor Swift? And why are we—specifically, why are Christians—investing so much of our time and money in an artist who is living in darkness and seems to be proud of it?
5 Songs to Listen to This Easter
Easter is almost here, so today’s post has several song recommendations for you to listen to this week. Of course, you can listen to these songs at any time of year; but I specifically included songs about Christ’s death and resurrection. I hope you enjoy these five song suggestions.
Why I Don’t Like “Treat You Better” by Shawn Mendes
I've written about Shawn Mendes’ music once before, and I couldn’t help but address another one of his hit singles, “Treat You Better.” This song is a little dated, but it still plays on the radio. And honestly, it’s a goldmine for me—I have a lot of zingers that I could share with you about this song. Get ready to hate Shawn Mendes’ guts. (Just kidding. I’m not encouraging you hate him—just to evaluate his music with fresh eyes!)
Why I Don’t Like “Stitches” by Shawn Mendes
Although Shawn Mendes' song "Stitches" is several years old, I didn't really get into it until recently. I was drawn to the sassy lyrics, the catchy beat, and Shawn Mendes’ voice—of course. But as I listened to this song over and over, I couldn’t help but feel guilty. Why was I listening to this depressing song about a difficult heartbreak with no resolution except…well…death?
Why I Don’t Like “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars
I'd heard "Just the Way You Are" before, but I hadn't seen the music video for it until a classmate shared it in a presentation for class recently. At first, the lyrics made me feel good. The song made me think of similar songs, like the crazy popular hit “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction. But then I understood the message that this song was sending—especially when it was combined with the music video.
