Last month, I appeared as a guest on Unpolished Faith, a podcast hosted by Madi Franquiz. Our conversation centered on shining the light of Christ in secular work environments. This topic is near and dear to my heart because I've had jobs in worldly workplaces (and they were challenging!). But I hope our conversation will encourage you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and share His love in difficult places. I really appreciate Madi for having me on her podcast. You can listen to the episode here!
1 Thing to Ask Yourself Before You Get a Side Gig
In last week’s post, I talked about a very brief side gig I had a few years ago that drained me. I wasn’t drained by the people I worked with or the organization I worked for; I was simply drained by having a part-time job in addition to having a full-time job. After about six months, I quit because I couldn’t handle having a side gig anymore—but I learned a valuable lesson from the experience. Whether you’re hoping to find a side gig or not, I think it’ll be helpful.
What I Wish I Hadn’t Worried About During College (Part 2)
In Part 1, I admitted that I carried many worries about the future with me throughout college. But I also worried about making friends during college. I wanted to ensure I made “enough” friends, which is honestly a silly thing to worry about because no one can determine how many friends is “enough.” And that’s exactly why I’m writing this post—to encourage you to take the pressure off yourself to make friends and instead trust God to provide.
What I Wish I Hadn’t Worried About During College (Part 1)
In His kindness, God sustained me through my first year—and my second, third, and fourth years. But I genuinely don’t miss that season of my life because I spent so much time worrying about things I didn’t need to worry about. My hope is that you’ll learn from my mistakes though. Please please please don’t waste your time worrying—especially about the future—while you’re in college.
1 Thing Every Christian College Student Needs to Know
I attended a small Christian college in Tennessee, and my experience there was positive overall. The college’s aim of preparing students to make a difference in the world was admirable. I realize not every Christian goes to a Christian college though—and that’s okay! No matter where you choose to attend college, there’s one thing you need to know that will shape your college experience—and the rest of your life.
3 Things to Keep in Mind as You Search for Your Dream Job
Last summer, God gave me my dream job. I started working as a full-time writer/editor for a Christian ministry. I’d been praying for a position like this for years, and God graciously answered my prayers. But over the past several months, I’ve learned a few unexpected lessons I want to share with you that may change your perspective as you search for your dream job.
5 Tips for the Girl Who’s Unsure What to Study in College
It's common for high school and college students to struggle with questions and concerns about what to study in college. There’s so much pressure to select the "perfect" major from hundreds of options. I understand if you have decision paralysis, but there are ways to overcome it. As a girl who was unsure what to study in college, here are five tips to help you decide.
Dear Introverted College Student
Even though I’m not in college anymore, you and I have more in common than you might expect. First, I’ve always been an introvert; so I understand how valuable your alone time is. Second, a few years ago, I was in college—specifically, a small Christian college that was a 10-hour drive from home. I missed my family, I was scared of making friends, and I was too concerned about my grades. (Yeah, #Classic Introverted Freshman.) But in hindsight, I can see so many things I should’ve done differently in college—and this post is my friendly warning to you: Don’t do what I did.
2 Things Every College Senior Needs to Know Before Graduation
When my senior year of college came, I was determined to line up a good job for after graduation. I didn’t want to be unemployed for a second after I walked across the stage and received my diploma on graduation day. Ironically, (1) I didn’t end up starting my first post-college job until two months after graduation and (2) my first job after graduation was the worst job that I’ve ever had (with the exception of my brief employment at a fast-casual restaurant during high school). But I honestly needed both of those challenges in my life to help me truly transition to adulthood. Regardless of what your major is or what kind of job you’d like to have after graduation, here are a couple things that you should know.
