Where God's Word Meets Our Mess
Last summer, God gave me my dream job. I started working as a full-time writer/editor for a Christian ministry. I’d been praying for a position like this for years, and God graciously answered my prayers. But over the past several months, I’ve learned a few unexpected lessons I want to share with you that may change your perspective as you search for your dream job.
Unfortunately, this behavior (i.e., phone fixation in social situations) is common for people of all ages. It’s not just a teen girl issue. Even more unfortunately, this behavior is what’s holding us back from making real connections with each other.
So friends, I have something I want to share with you on this 4th of July. It’s one life-changing truth summed up in four simple words. Are you ready to find out what they are?
This idea of not giving up on love (i.e., not despairing as a single girl) has been on my mind a lot lately. Sadly, many single girls do give up on love—which leads them to become bitter and resentful. Sometimes it even leads them to settle for guys who aren’t God’s best for them. So I wrote this poem about not giving up on love to encourage my fellow single girls—and to encourage my future husband.
I do believe God has called me to write—at least in this season of my life—but the burnout is agonizing. It’s also agonizing to not know when I’ll stop feeling this way. But honestly, that’s why I wrote this post—to remind you (and myself) of a few important things if you're experiencing burnout and don’t know how to move forward.
Your boyfriend has never said anything like that before. He’s always respected your physical boundaries. In fact, you were confident he shared your convictions about saving sex for marriage—which is exactly why you don’t know how to respond to his statement. But you're tempted to say yes.
When I shared my not-so-kind remarks on The Office last week, I promised to recommend a more wholesome resource to you this week. That resource is Unsung Hero. It’s truly one of the best faith-based films I’ve ever seen, and I hope this post will inspire you to see it for yourself.
When I had the idea of writing a post about The Office, I wasn’t sure if I should actually do it. I wanted to discuss my thoughts on this TV show, but I realized my thoughts on it weren’t positive. Obviously, I decided to go for it because you’re reading this post. Though I understand the words I share in this post might make you feel uncomfortable, I’m willing to say uncomfortable things if they ultimately help you grow in your relationship with God.
Even though I haven’t dated anyone, I’ve still had several broken hearts. It feels like unrequited love (i.e., falling for someone who doesn’t share my feelings) has been the theme of my single years. I’ve learned that having a formal relationship isn’t a prerequisite for getting a broken heart. Unfortunately, it’s incredibly easy to get one.
