I realize “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” by Shawn Mendes is almost 10 years old, but its message feels timeless in a sense. It’s one of many secular songs about coloring outside the lines. This song is certainly catchy, but it has some questionable lyrics that will hopefully hold you back from adding it to your playlist.
I recently heard a song called “Flowers” on a Christian radio station, and it’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve heard. The music is amazing, but so are the lyrics. Samantha Ebert finds the balance between raw honesty and genuine hope. It almost feels like she wrote “Flowers” just for me—and maybe you’ll feel the same way after you listen to it.

Although I don’t know much about her, I know her song “The Truth” has some issues. For Easter last year, I wrote a post with several recommendations for songs about Jesus' death and resurrection. But I realized I've never shared a post with song recommendations for Thanksgiving. So I decided to share a post with five recommendations for songs that will hopefully help you get in the mood for Thanksgiving.
“Somebody to You” is a popular Christian song that Rachael Lampa released in 2023. At first, I loved this song. It really resonated with me because—like Rachael—I’ve struggled with insecurity about my popularity and success. The lyrics are vulnerable (which is honestly rare in the Christian music industry). But after I heard her perform “Somebody to You” in concert, my opinion totally changed.
Let’s go back to 2018 when Domenick Nati interviewed her and specifically asked if homosexuality is sinful. (Yes, I realize 2018 was five years ago. But I feel more passionate now than I ever have about her response—hence this post). And in essence, she told Domenick, “Well, I can’t respond to that because I’m not God." I can't help but cringe when I think about that response.
Why is the world suddenly so obsessed with Taylor Swift? And why are we—specifically, why are Christians—investing so much of our time and money in an artist who is living in darkness and seems to be proud of it?
Easter is almost here, so today’s post has several song recommendations for you to listen to this week. Of course, you can listen to these songs at any time of year; but I specifically included songs about Christ’s death and resurrection. I hope you enjoy these five song suggestions.
