Last month, I appeared as a guest on Unpolished Faith, a podcast hosted by Madi Franquiz. Our conversation centered on shining the light of Christ in secular work environments. This topic is near and dear to my heart because I've had jobs in worldly workplaces (and they were challenging!). But I hope our conversation will encourage you to keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and share His love in difficult places. I really appreciate Madi for having me on her podcast. You can listen to the episode here!
A Message for My Brothers in Christ
In recent years, I’ve noticed an unsettling trend among guys who claim to love the Lord. No, I’m not referring to the rise in porn addictions, though that sin is definitely becoming more prevalent. Before I tell you what trend I’m referring to, I want you to know that this post is meant to build you up, not tear you down. As your sister in Christ, I want to help you live out your calling—and this is a major part of it.
3 Things to Keep in Mind as You Search for Your Dream Job
Last summer, God gave me my dream job. I started working as a full-time writer/editor for a Christian ministry. I’d been praying for a position like this for years, and God graciously answered my prayers. But over the past several months, I’ve learned a few unexpected lessons I want to share with you that may change your perspective as you search for your dream job.
5 Encouraging Truths for the Girl Who’s Type A
As Type A girls, we often sacrifice the health of our bodies, hearts, minds, and souls for the accomplishment of our goals. But God clearly cares about rest, which means we should, too. 2 Common Workplace Sins to Avoid
As you probably know, getting drunk and doing drugs at work is unwise because you’ll get in trouble. They’re definite no-no’s, along with a host of other obvious no-nos, like stealing from your company and vandalizing your office. But there are two subtler no-nos that are rampant in the workplace today that may not get you fired but are still sinful in God’s eyes and have negative consequences.
How to Get Through a Really Bad Day
Don’t get so depressed about a bad day that you can’t smile tomorrow. It’s easy just to see a big, black cloud hanging over your life after you’ve had a rough day. But God says He’s not finished yet. You never know what tomorrow will be like. Give God a chance to work and move in your life.
Returning to the Endless Mess
With everything in life, there needs to be a balance; and work is no exception. There’s a balance between not having enough rest and having too much. We can get very addicted to rest. And this addiction to rest is sometimes called "laziness."
Escaping from the Endless Mess
We can’t wait until Sunday or until all the laundry is folded or until we feel like we’ve done enough labor to take a break.
Letting Go of My To-Do List Life
The to-do list is never ending. I feel you. There’s always more to do. As soon as you feel satisfied because you finished a big job, you realize there are six more “big jobs” to do. Isn’t every job a big job? Why can’t a task take five minutes instead of five hours? I don’t have the perfect solution to make your life less hectic, but I might have a reason why we’re so busy.
