I had recently quit my job—my first job as a college graduate—due to several issues with management and my coworkers. Trying to avoid a long period of unemployment, I applied for a long list of jobs. Within the span of a week or two, I had eight interviews. Which meant that I had an important decision to make. Whether he knew it or not, Tate was actually a determining factor.
Still, I wanted to open up about why I wrote this book. I feel like the why behind a book is sometimes just as important as the what inside a book. Why did I specifically choose to write Real Recovery? Here are two of the main reasons.
When other people ask you how you’re doing, you enjoy telling them, “Oh, I’m good—busy as usual.” You have the appearance of a go-getter, which you secretly love. And you always feel good about yourself when you complete the tasks on your to-do list. But all of a sudden—at least it feels sudden—you reach your breaking point.

I know 22 engaged couples (i.e., 44 less single people whom I know). These family members, friends, acquaintances, and practically-strangers will be joining together in matrimony. Suddenly, it feels like the clock is ticking for me—very, very fast.
Perhaps I enjoy Hallmark movies so much because of my increasing age and loneliness. Or maybe I enjoy them because of my desperation for clean romantic movies in a sea of sex-saturated romance movies—or just desperation in general.
I know that you wonder if one day—someday—all of the eye pain, neck pain, and back pain will pay off. If the 45-minute commute, the horrendous traffic, and the interstate driving will pay off. If the long, lonely hours of staring at a screen trapped inside white prison walls will pay off.
