Today, we live in a culture that is filled with garbage—racy movies, crude music, and indecent pictures. Sexy ads and dirty jokes are everywhere around us. Putting this garbage in our heads is becoming normal. And, unfortunately, it is even becoming normal for Christians.
We make excuses for our habits, claiming that we like inappropriate music, movies, books, and websites because they’re entertaining or funny or creative. We try to downplay the swearing, coarse jokes, and racy pictures.
But whether we like it or not, those things stick with us. Dirty words and indecent images seem to stay in our minds forever. Sometimes, they play over and over—and we can’t seem to stop them.
That is why we must be very careful when we choose what to look at and listen to. Maybe we’re not affected by every word we hear and every picture we see, but when we continually fill our minds with those immoral things, they start to corrupt the way we speak and act.
