For Easter last year, I wrote a post for TTT with several recommendations for songs about Jesus’ death and resurrection. But I realized I’ve never shared a post with song recommendations for Thanksgiving on TTT. So—without further ado—here are five song recommendations that’ll hopefully help you get in the mood for Thanksgiving:
1. “The Goodness of Jesus” by CityAlight
This song is so simple but so beautiful. Ultimately, the words remind listeners of Jesus’ nature. In endless ways, He is good! No matter what challenges you’re currently facing, the lyrics of this song apply to you. Jesus is worthy of your praise for His goodness in all circumstances, and you can take your struggles straight to Him.
2. “It’s Always Been You” by Phil Wickham
You’re probably not surprised Phil Wickham ended up on this list of song recommendations because I’m a pretty big fan of his music. But even if you aren’t his biggest fan, I highly recommend spending a few minutes to listen to this poignant song. In an indirect way, it’s a reminder to reflect on how God has worked throughout our lives. It can prepare your heart to praise Him for His presence and power.
3. “Thank You Jesus for the Blood” by Charity Gayle
One of my friends sang this song at church several months ago (and I hope she sings it again very soon). The combination of the lyrics and the music is powerful. Unfortunately, the reality that Christ’s blood covers every single sin we’ve committed in the past and will commit in the future is an often-ignored reality in the Church. But it’s a reality we need to embrace, thanking Him for making such a great sacrifice for us.
4. “Psalm 23” by Phil Wickham Featuring Tiffany Hudson
I realize I already included a song by Phil Wickham above, but I couldn’t not share this song with you. Not only are the lyrics amazing (and obviously very connected to Scripture), but the music is also incredible. I love the combination of Phil’s voice with Tiffany’s voice! Whether you’ve memorized Psalm 23 or you’ve never read it before, you’ll be moved by this song.
5. “Now That I Know You” by CAIN
Although I don’t love CAIN, I do love this song. The harmonies in it are amazing, but more importantly, the lyrics have great depth. The song essentially describes the shift that happens when we come to know the Lord personally (especially the shift in the way we view ourselves). Being able to identify as His children is a priceless gift.
Closing Thoughts
As you prepare for Thanksgiving this week, try to carve out space for worship and praise. Don’t let the cooking, cleaning, or hosting distract you from what truly matters. Giving thanks to God honors Him. And through these five songs—and a plethora of others—you can do that!
“The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice honors me; to the one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!” (Psalm 50:23 ESV)
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
