He’s Coming Quickly (and 3 Other Truths to Remember This Easter)

With Easter just a few days away, I thought this would be an appropriate time to share some encouraging truths from Scripture—specifically from Revelation. I recently read through Revelation, and honestly, it was difficult for me to understand. But this book is in God’s Word for a reason, and we can find hope in it, even if we can’t fully comprehend everything it says.

I realize it might seem strange to discuss Revelation in a post about Easter, but I see a clear connection between the events described in Revelation and the events described in the gospels. When Jesus lived on Earth, He said He would (1) die (2) rise from the dead (3) return. The gospels make it clear that He fulfilled the first two promises. While we wait for Him to fulfill the third promise, we need to know and believe the truth. In this post, I’ll focus on four specific truths about His coming that are in Revelation 22:

1. He’s Coming Quickly

“Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” (Revelation 22:7 NKJV)

“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.” (Revelation 22:12 NKJV)

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! (Revelation 22:20 NKJV)

Honestly, I need to focus more on the truth that Christ is coming back soon because it can radically transform the way I live. There are so many reasons I’m glad this world is not my permanent home. Sin, sickness, and sorrow are a few that immediately come to mind. We can find tremendous hope knowing those things will come to end and all things will be made new.

2. We Can Trust His Promise to Come

Then he [an angel] said to me [John], “These words are faithful and true.” And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place. (Revelation 22:6 NKJV)

God never forgets to keep a promise He’s made. That truth is demonstrated by the first coming of Christ. Thousands of years passed between the moment God promised to send a redeemer (Genesis 3:15) and the moment God sent Him (Luke 2:6-7). But He kept His promise. He’ll do the same with His promise to return! His words never fail because He never fails.

3. We Have a Purpose While We Wait for Him to Come

And he [an angel] said to me [John], “Do not seal the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is at hand. He who is unjust, let him be unjust still; he who is filthy, let him be filthy still; he who is righteous, let him be righteous still; he who is holy, let him be holy still.” (Revelation 22:10-11 NKJV)

Even when we become weary of waiting for Christ to return, we can’t give up on our calling as believers. We have a clear purpose to fulfill while we wait: Pursue righteousness and holiness. When He returns, He’ll reward every person “according to his work” (Revelation 22:12).

4. It’s Not Too Late to Come

And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. (Revelation 22:27 NKJV)

One especially wonderful part of Revelation 22 and Christ’s promise to return is that it’s not too late to come. His invitation is still open, friends. If you haven’t accepted it yet, this is your chance. It won’t always be open, but it’s open right now. So come!
