Where God's Word Meets Our Mess
I realize that most people hate the Christmas rush, but I think that it can be a great thing. You know—the rush to buy presents for family members and friends, the rush to watch every Christmas movie possible, the rush to decorate with cute Christmas décor, and the rush to make cards and cookies. The rush to get it all over with. I love the Christmas rush because it helps me escape…but only for so long.
I have a really bad habit of thinking these terrible, mean thoughts. I have a thought life that would make your skin crawl. Why are my thoughts about others so ugly and dirty?
But before the semester ends, I have to survive—and thrive, if possible. Because I have to get through my final papers, presentations, and exams. Yay.
Last year, I wrote about three things that I wasn’t thankful for. For this post, I'm going to share two more things that I’m not thankful for:
The reason my heart hurt was because it seemed like the commenters could only express their feelings in the comments section under my article. Was that the only “safe” place for them to share how they truly felt about guys and relationships? My story of longing and loneliness was their story, too.
As you probably know, getting drunk and doing drugs at work is unwise because you’ll get in trouble. They’re definite no-no’s, along with a host of other obvious no-nos, like stealing from your company and vandalizing your office. But there are two subtler no-nos that are rampant in the workplace today that may not get you fired but are still sinful in God’s eyes and have negative consequences.
Because a recent “no” in my life has left me feeling emotionally shaken yet again. It caused an important door to close—or, rather, to slam shut in my face. And now, I just feel lost...and afraid.
Somehow, I still have a hardcore crush on Sean. I stare at him from across the cafeteria at meals. I look up his picture in the college directory when I’m feeling lonely. I imagine us having this amazing relationship that would make you crazy jealous. But it’s all fake. It’s all in my head.
I realize that it’s almost impossible to completely avoid Halloween. Even if you personally decide not to trick-or-treat, the Halloween decorations, candy, and costumes still exist. People will still celebrate "spooky" and even evil aspects of Halloween, like witches, ghosts, and graves. However, here are a few ideas to turn an often-spooky holiday into a great ministry opportunity.
