Where God's Word Meets Our Mess
I didn’t write this post because every single Hallmark movie is amazing. Rather, I wrote this post because—in general—non-Hallmark movies in the “romantic” category are trashy. I realize that’s a hot take, but I genuinely want to help you grow in your faith—and movies that don’t honor God won't help you grow. So if you’re looking for alternatives this Valentine’s Day, I have a few to share with you.
I was pleased that weddings, marriage, and love were all celebrated in this Hallmark movie. Still, it felt like it was missing something. Honesty, it feels like all Hallmark movies are missing something.
Perhaps I enjoy Hallmark movies so much because of my increasing age and loneliness. Or maybe I enjoy them because of my desperation for clean romantic movies in a sea of sex-saturated romance movies—or just desperation in general.
Even though I haven’t seen that many Hallmark movies, I’ve seen enough to know what all the endings will be: happily ever after. Honestly, Hallmark, you deceive so many women with your cookie-cutter romances. These five false expectations that you've given us are particularly to blame.
