Where God's Word Meets Our Mess
I don't have a problem with single girls hanging out with fellow single girls on Valentine's Day. In fact, that can be a great way to spend the holiday! I just have a problem with the message of Galentine's Day, which is this: You don't need a guy; you just need your gal pals. (Hence the name Galentine's Day—emphasis on gal).
But. I did hear something in a sermon several months ago that has changed my perspective on why God “withholds” good things from us—and it’s something that you need to hear, too.

This post isn’t about what attracts guys in general—because guys who follow Jesus (hopefully) prioritize very different things than guys who don’t follow Jesus. However, this post is about how to attract guys who follow Jesus and two ways you can do that based on 1 Peter 3:3-4.
I realize several of you who are reading this post aren’t single, so as a single girl, I want to share three ways you can pray for single girls like me. Maybe they work with you or they’re in your Bible study or they babysit your kids. However you know them, know they covet your prayers. And if you’re not exactly sure how to pray for them, here are a few suggestions that I highly recommend.
I couldn’t help but notice Liam sitting across the room from me in that small circle of people. He was incredibly handsome, so I immediately tried to catch a glimpse of his left hand to see if he was married or not. To my delight, he wasn’t wearing a wedding ring! But unfortunately, the evening went downhill from there.
Single Girl, I realize there are few things in this life as scary as entering adulthood without a significant other. An adoring husband, two to five children, and a quaint little cottage—not a career—are the only things you’ve ever wanted for your life. Yet here you are—perhaps just a few days, weeks, or months from stepping into adulthood—with no husband, no children, and no home. Just a half-written cover letter and an empty resume.
I can’t help thinking about how similar I’ve felt to Gabby Barrett. I, too, have felt “love slipping through my hands”—honestly, many times, not just on one particular occasion. But there have been a few especially painful (and recent) times this has happened to me.
Single Girl, if you have a friend who is engaged, please don’t despair. Instead, make the conscious choice to love her well throughout this special season of her life. Here are three ways to do that.
