Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but deceitful are the kisses of an enemy. (Proverbs 27:6 NASB)
Sometimes, we feel a little too pleased with ourselves. We can get very…uppity. We think we know it all.
Well, we don’t.
There’s one thing you should know about feeling uppity.
It never ends well.
You aren’t the star of the show. You don’t know it all. Sometimes, it’s best to get help.
In fact, most of the time, it’s best to get help.
It’s easy to brush off the advice from a friend or the warning from a parent or sibling. It’s easy to feel like you’re being bossed and pushed around to do what you don’t want to do.
Sometimes, the thing you don’t want to do is the exact thing you should do.
Think about it…
Maybe your friend was right when she told you that you seemed stressed and should think about eliminating something from your schedule.
Maybe your mom was right when she said you shouldn’t wear that skirt because it’s too short, and all the boys will stare at you.
Maybe your brother was right when he said that you should go back to church even though you were hurt by a friend there.
You probably don’t want to be told to that you’re too busy or your skirt’s too short or you should give church another chance.
But maybe that’s exactly what you need to hear.
Maybe you have felt really stressed and thought about eliminating some stuff from your schedule.
Maybe you have noticed the guys at school taking a sudden interest in you and wondered if you should change your wardrobe.
Maybe you have thought about going back to church but have felt too scared to try.
God uses the people in our lives as His messengers. You will probably never hear Him talk to you in an audible voice (until heaven), but He uses people to warn us and encourage us. Sometimes, He uses other people to speak to us.
It’s hard to swallow our stubborn pride and take advice from others who care about us, but that’s just it. THEY CARE ABOUT US. They’re not trying to annoy us or boss us around. They’re trying to help because we’re heading in the wrong direction.
I don’t like to be told what to do. Nobody does. But we don’t know everything. Sometimes we need a little nudge to get us on the right path again.
Just remember that God may be using someone in your life to tell you something. Don’t ignore it. Be ready for it.
Listen to His voice by listening to the wise people He has placed in your life.
