I am with you as you cry alone in your living room and ponder what decision you should make next.

I will be with you as you return to the doctor’s office and tell her what treatment you have chosen.

Hurt

I was with you when you heard a coworker complain about you behind your back at your brand new job.

I am with you as you stare at your tiny first paycheck and doubt that your job is worth the frustration.

I will be with you as you decide to press on and go back to work with a genuine smile.

Guilty

I was with you when you held the positive pregnancy test in your trembling hands and shook your head in disbelief.

I am with you as you drown in guilt and shame for the choice you made to take your child’s life.

I will be with you as you tell your parents about your past choices and break up with the child’s abusive father.

Isolated

I was with you as you packed your bags and drove 500 miles from home because you felt called to a new place.

I am with you as you sit alone in church and eat alone at work and beg Me to provide a few friends.

I will be with you as you face the empty pews and the empty seats but choose to hold onto Me.

Heartbroken

I was with you when your boyfriend held your hand for the last time as he said that he wanted to break up.

I am with you as you watch romantic comedies and eat ice cream to numb your broken heart.

I will be with you as you pass him in the hallway and see him flirting with your friends in class.

Confused

I was with you when your parents yelled at each other while you hid in the basement and listened.

I am with you as you come home to an empty house and wonder why no one is ever there to greet you.

I will be with you as you watch your parents sign their divorce papers and leave you to choose a side.

Lost

I was with you when you took that first sip of alcohol, which accelerated into a full-blown addiction.

I am with you as you grip the wine bottle in your hands and smash it in the kitchen sink.

I will be with you as you attend your first AA meeting and open up about your alcoholism.

Lonely

I was with you when your best friend told you that she met the love of her life and was getting married.

I am with you as you lie on your bed in your maid of honor’s dress and question why you’re still alone.

I will be with you as you walk down the aisle behind your best friend and gaze into the sea of expectant faces.

Was, Is, and Will Be

No matter what difficult circumstances we face in life, God doesn’t change. He was. He is. He will be. Absolutely nothing can change His faithful character, and His love for His children doesn’t change based on the year or the day or the hour.

But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?” And He said, “Certainly I will be with you, and this shall be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: when you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall worship God at this mountain.” Then Moses said to God, “Behold, I am going to the sons of Israel, and I will say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ Now they may say to me, ‘What is His name?’ What shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”; and He said, “Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:11-14 NASB)
