Why I’m Not a Fan of Lauren Daigle

I’ve never been a huge fan of Lauren Daigle. Since her first album came out in 2015, I haven’t particularly enjoyed her music style—it’s just not really in the “pop-ish” category of music that I like. But honestly, regardless of genre, I’m not a big fan of Lauren Daigle because of her stance on homosexuality.

Let’s go back to 2018 when Domenick Nati interviewed her and specifically asked if homosexuality is sinful. (Yes, I realize 2018 was five years ago. But I feel more passionate now than I ever have about her response—hence this post). And in essence, she told Domenick, “Well, I can’t respond to that because I’m not God.” I can’t help but cringe when I think about that response.

The Easy Answer

Honestly, I didn’t watch the interview with Domenick and Lauren. (I couldn’t even access it, which was odd.) I don’t know what she said throughout the interview about homosexuality (or anything else for that matter). But his question was very clear—and biblically, so was the answer. Lauren didn’t stand firm on the teachings of Scripture, which is a major bummer.

It’s fine when someone who isn’t a professing Christian says, “Well, I can’t say if homosexuality is a sin or not because I don’t know what God says about it—and frankly, I don’t care.” That’s an expected response.

But it’s far from okay when someone who professes to follow Christ—the One who clearly stated the world would hate His followers (John 15:19)—isn’t courageous enough to say, “Yes, homosexuality is a sin. It’s a sin my Father can forgive, but it does go against His Word.”

God literally says homosexuality is a sin throughout the entire Bible—Leviticus 18:22, 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 and 1 Timothy 1:8-11 to name just a few instances. So by not picking a side, Lauren picked a side—the wrong one.

The Biblical Answer

But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth. It was for this He called you through our gospel, that you may gain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ. So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us. (2 Thessalonians 2:13-15 NASB1995)

As Christians, we’re commanded to stand firm on Scripture—even the uncomfy or unpopular parts of it. While I think some of Lauren’s songs have truth-filled lyrics, I also think she got the homosexuality issue all wrong. And that’s not a gray issue—the Bible clearly calls it out.

I’m not saying I refuse to listen to Lauren Daigle’s music ever again. I won’t turn off the radio if one of her songs comes on. I won’t make a fuss if a family member or friend wants to listen to her music with me. (And no, I don’t think you’re a terrible Christian if you like her music.)

But personally, I don’t want to go out of my way to support a Christian artist who directly contradicts Scripture regarding homosexuality. Lord willing, she’ll change her stance on this issue.
