A Simple Message for You This Christmas

I often struggle to come up with ideas for holiday posts. That’s why I told myself it would be okay to write a “simple” post for Christmas this year. With all the other Christmas content you’ve probably seen over the last few weeks, maybe a “simple” Christmas post is exactly what you need.

Beauty in Simplicity

I recently had the opportunity to write a report for the Christian ministry I work for. A crucial part of the process was choosing a theme, and I ended up choosing a very simple one: believe. The report gradually came to life, and the final product was ready after several weeks. It was exciting to receive a copy in the mail.

Belief isn’t a complicated concept, but that’s what makes it so beautiful—particularly in the context of salvation. To receive the gift of eternal life that God offers us, all we have to do is believe. We simply have to trust in His Son.

One of my favorite passages in the Bible is from Luke 8, which details the story of Jesus healing the daughter of a synagogue official named Jairus. I love how Jesus offers Jairus hope immediately after he learns that his daughter is dead.

While He was still speaking, someone came from the house of the synagogue official, saying, “Your daughter has died; do not trouble the Teacher anymore.” But when Jesus heard this, He answered him, “Do not be afraid any longer; only believe, and she will be made well.” (Luke 8:49-50 NASB1995)

Just like in Jairus’ situation, we can choose to hold on to fear or believe in the Savior.

Blessed Through Belief

“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.” (Luke 1:45 NASB1995)

When Mary’s cousin Elizabeth spoke these words to Mary, both of them were pregnant. Elizabeth was pregnant with John (who would become known as “John the Baptist”), and Mary was pregnant with Jesus. I think Elizabeth is referring to Mary’s faith here. After all, when the angel Gabriel told Mary that she would give birth to the Messiah, she responded, “‘…may it be done to me according to your word’” (Luke 1:38 NASB1995). She trusted Gabriel’s words—which ultimately means she trusted God’s words.

That’s my simple message for you this Christmas: Trust the Word of God. Have confidence that He’ll fulfill His promises. Believe. You’ll be blessed when you do.

Merry Christmas, friends!
