Wandering

I wrote this poem months ago and finally decided to share it with you! It’s all about wandering–something that we often do as Christians. Sometimes, we wander to sinful addictions and habits that ensnare us. Other times, we wander to Satan’s lies because they seem more believable than God’s Truth. And other times, we wander to self-pity and self-defeat because our situation seems to difficult to handle.

But take heart, Wanderer. You don’t walk alone.

For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”(Hebrews 13:5b NKJV)

All of the doubts and questions come.

My mind and heart

Now feel so numb.

I’ve lost my strength in this dry land.

Have I strayed from

The Father’s hand?

My wandering and restless heart

Once felt so bright

But now feels dark.

Will I be stuck in this dry land?

In years to come,

Where will I stand?

This place of doubt now feels so known.

It feels so right,

Almost like home.

But I can’t settle in this place.

You call me home

To Your embrace.

I know I can’t give up this fight.

But I can’t see

Your shining light.

God, only You can help me now.

I must go back

But don’t know how.

When I can’t walk another step,

Please bring me home.

Strengthen Your grip.

If You don’t hold me, I’ll escape

And run back to

The desert place.

Just bring me to Your running streams

Far from this place

Of broken dreams.

You bring me home; now I can rest.

At last, I’m free

To catch my breath.

But even in the desert land,

You kept me in

Your mighty hand.

Now I can journey without fear.

I can’t wander

From Your sphere.

You’ll never leave or turn away.

You’re always here.

You’ll always stay.
