Where God's Word Meets Our Mess

I wrote the following words from the perspective of our Heavenly Father. Of course, I'm not trying to put words in His mouth or add to the Bible. These words are just my ideas of what He might tell you if you're feeling...
My. Senior. Year. What a scary combination of words. At least, I’m really scared by that combination of words. Of course, I have the usual concerns about doing well in my classes and juggling work with school. But more than that, I’m worried about what I’m going to do after graduation in May. What the heck am I going to do with the rest of my life?
When I woke up this morning, I realized that I'd had a devastating, awful nightmare. No, I wasn’t kidnapped. My family wasn’t eaten by monsters. My home didn’t burn down. Rather, the groom didn’t show up at my wedding.
Despite what many Christians will tell you (or imply), it's actually okay to feel empty. You're not less of a Christian because you can't see, hear, or feel God right now...even if that "right now" period lasts for a while. It isn't our job as believers to conjure up emotions that don't exist.
Instead of shopping for Easter candy and bunny décor, we’ll be scouring the store shelves for toilet paper, hand soap, and milk. Instead of planning family parties and cleaning for visitors, we’ll be planning how to cook using our current food supply and sanitizing every corner of our homes. Instead of getting together with friends, we’ll be cooped up in our homes and cozied up in front of our TVs. It'll be...different.
Yes, I'm referring to the coronavirus. This sickness is a hot topic in our culture right now. However, it's more than just a sickness. In fact, I'm more scared about its effects than the possibility that I could catch it.
These people ran away from God. Maybe they’ve even confessed their sins, but their lives will never be the same because of their sinful choices. Every day, you think about their decisions and how their decisions have impacted you. And you wallow in your disappointment and pain. What else can you do?
Because a recent “no” in my life has left me feeling emotionally shaken yet again. It caused an important door to close—or, rather, to slam shut in my face. And now, I just feel lost...and afraid.
