My second book (The Ring by Spring Ruse: Recognizing and Rewriting the False Narratives Single Girls Have Been Told About Dating and Waiting) will be published in two weeks! As I mentioned in last week’s post, I spent about four years writing, revising, and re-revising this book. I felt like this would be a great time to share a few fun facts with you about The Ring by Spring Ruse. You might discover something unexpected!
Fun Fact #1: The Person Who Designed the Cover for *The Ring by Spring Ruse* Designed the Cover for *Real Recovery*
The process of finding and choosing a cover designer for my book stressed me out because I wanted to make sure I chose the right person. (And there were so many options for cover designers!) But in hindsight, I can see that God’s hand guided me throughout the process—and I believe He led me to choose Hannah Linder (from Hannah Linder Designs).
Although I sent inquiries to multiple cover designers, I ultimately picked Hannah because the fee she charged seemed reasonable and the sample covers on her website looked great. She did an excellent job on the cover design for The Ring by Spring Ruse. If you’ve read Real Recovery, you’ve probably noticed her name on the copyright page because she designed the book cover—which she also did an excellent job designing.
Fun Fact #2: I Changed the Title Multiple Times but Ultimately Decided to Combine My First Two Ideas
The first title I gave my book was #Ring by Spring (and Other Misconceptions Single Girls Have). (The hashtag felt right for a while—until it didn’t). I’m so glad that Bob Hostetler—an author and literary agent—inspired me to pick a different title. When I attended a writers’ conference, I talked with him about my book proposal. One recommendation he made was to have a more positive tone in the title. So I changed the title to Your Love Story Is Isn’t Over: Rewriting 10 False Narratives Single Girls Have Been Told About Finding True Love, moving the emphasis from the false narratives themselves to the rewriting of the false narratives.
But after thinking and praying, I decided to change the title again. Basically, I combined the “ring by spring” concept (minus the hashtag) with the “false narratives” concept. The Ring by Spring Ruse: Recognizing and Rewriting the False Narratives Single Girls Have Been Told About Dating and Waiting might seem like a long title, but I happen to think that a 20-word title for a 137-page book is quite succinct.
Fun Fact #3: A Free Resource That Accompanies *The Ring by Spring Ruse* Will Become Available Soon
In the near future, a (free!) devotional that supplements The Ring by Spring Ruse will become available on TTT. This devotional includes 10 Scripture passages and 10 prayers to guide you as you apply the truths from the book to your life. When I add the devotional to my Freebies page on TTT, I’ll definitely make an announcement so you can download it.
In The Ring by Spring Ruse, you’ll get to read about singleness in a way that’s actually helpful and hopeful. It’s about real struggles faced by a real single girl and the real lessons she’s learning as she dates and waits. Singleness definitely isn’t easy, but I promise you can be strong and take courage in this season of life if you continue to place your hope in God.
Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who hope in the LORD. (Psalm 31:24 NASB1995)
