The topic of sex used to make me feel pretty uncomfortable, but that’s no longer the case. Now I’m excited about having sex once I get married. If you feel the same way, I want you to know you’re not weird; you’re normal. This post includes three truths about sex that every single girl should know.
1. Your Curiosity Is Normal
If you’re a single girl who hasn’t had sex, it’s totally normal to have curiosity. There are so many areas of life like that. For example, I’ve always been curious about skiing because I’ve never done it. If I end up doing it one day, I won’t be curious about it anymore. All that to say, don’t be ashamed of your questions or concerns about sex. In marriage one day, all of those will be addressed.
2. Your Desires Are Normal
Just like there’s nothing wrong with being curious about sex, there’s nothing wrong with looking forward to sex. Your desire to have sex isn’t something you need to try to hide or ignore. God created you with that desire, and that desire is good! And by waiting until you’re married to have sex, you’re honoring Him with your desire.
3. Your Struggles Are Normal
As I’ve talked about before, lust isn’t a “guys-only” sin. Girls struggle with lust too. I’d argue it’s an especially common struggle among single girls—probably because they feel ready to have sex but they aren’t married yet. I know from personal experience how great the temptation to lust is, and honestly, I’ve given in to that temptation countless times. But my point in saying that your (really, our) struggles are normal isn’t to normalize sin because sin is never okay. Rather, my point is to remind you—and encourage you—to keep fighting against lust as you wait for marriage.
Closing Thoughts
Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual imorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. (Colossians 3:5 ESV)
Single Girl, sex is a beautiful creation of God. You don’t need to be ashamed of your questions about sex or your desire to have sex with your husband one day. I know it’s hard to trust that God will fulfill your longing. But keep the three radical truths from this post in mind as you continue to wait for marriage and walk in sexual purity.
